For the past 25 years, SWAT Ministries has been taking the Gospel message to students all over the world. By teaching college students how to disciple and mentor middle and high school students, we have been raising up and challenging the next generation of christian leaders. SWAT leaders have experienced and taught the dynamic of life change through living out and teaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

This is...SWAT Ministries.

Our beginning.

SWAT Ministries began out of a country church outside of Athens, Georgia in the early 1990’s. Jon Messarra began using high school and college students to lead the students in his youth group. The dynamic of student leading student proved to be God’s desire when after four discipleship weekends the youth ministry grew from 16 to 200 students. This growth led other student pastors to request that Jon bring his student leaders to lead discipleship weekends for their churches. This led to Jon found SWAT Ministries Inc. (Student With a Testimony) in 1992.

Since 1992, we have been giving ourselves to churches across the country. We do this because there is a need for students to see older students joyfully living out their faith. Even though the mechanics of our SWAT weekends have changed over the years, the core has always been the relationships built between our leaders and the students on these weekends.

Word World Map

Exceedingly more.

The vision of SWAT is to disciple this generation to Christian maturity through every community in America. We will guide students in how to hear God through the spiritual disciplines. This will, in turn, lead to serving and leading others to Christ. Our mission through these principles is to connect students, ages 12-24, to Jesus. This is accomplished by teaching biblical disciplines and building intentional relationships utilizing college students as mentors during SWAT ministry events. SWAT desires to continue to grow throughout the country. We currently have leaders in Georgia, Tennessee, and Alabama. As doors open, we will equip student leaders to lead discipleship weekends across the country. Our prayer is that the Lord would make Disciples of Christ through our ministry. We seek to connect all people associated with us to the source of true life through the spiritual disciplines.

3 days of a life altering experience.

It is amazing to see how God works and moves during this time and brings these precious young students into a greater understanding of their purpose and value. We have countless testimonies of students sharing how these weekends have changed their life by awakening them to the reality of God's love for them and introducing them to how they can have a growing and intimate relationship with Jesus. We give God all the glory for the testimonies!

SWAT is a ministry that we here at Johnson Ferry trust year after year to provide great leadership to our DNOW weekend. Because of their recruitment and training process, I know I can trust them to send me students who love and are walking faithfully with Jesus. I think the greatest thing about SWAT is there commitment to excellence.
— Chris Trent (Johnson's Ferry Baptist Church)
We have had the privilege of using SWAT Ministries over 10 times to lead our student DNOW weekends. There are many ways SWAT has helped us, too many to name. But I’d like to share two. 1) They have always helped me take our students to a new and exciting level with their spiritual walk. 2) They have always helped me bring new life and energy to our student ministry after our weekends.
— Randal Woods (North Etowah Baptist Church)

Students changing students lives.

SWAT leaders are college students who have a passionate relationship with Jesus and a passion for  sharing that with other students. They understand and take advantage of the opportunities they have during this season of life.  They are able to relate to other students what it looks like to live and experience a daily relationship with Jesus Christ. They are intentional about personal growth and challenging others to experience that same personal growth and dynamic relationship that can only be experienced through the Spirit of God.

SWAT has helped me grow in my faith in several ways. The biggest being that it has held me accountable to making my faith real. My students on the weekends truly look up to me and view me as a role model, so it is crucial on their lives that I actually live out what I say. It has made me really ask myself why I believe the things I believe, rather than simply believing because that is what I was taught. In order to truly disciple someone, I believe I should explain the “why’s” behind what I am trying to instill in them. SWAT has played a crucial role in helping me reach this point.

The Lord has put SWAT in my life for a reason. SWAT has been an amazing outlet for me to serve others and spread the Gospel to youth. Jesus has been so good to me, and it is a life-changing experience to share that with others. I am so thankful for the opportunity to lead students and witness their response to the greatest love of all!
