Disciple Now is a Friday - Sunday event focused on discipling students. This began in Texas in the 70’s and has since spread throughout youth ministries around the world. The SWAT Weekend model comes from the command Jesus gives us in Matthew 28:19-20.

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.

“Our leaders make the difference.”

A SWAT Weekend consists of a college student (SWAT Leader) being paired with 6-8 students of the same gender in a host home. Families in the local church open up their homes for the weekend and come alongside the ministry effort by providing a place for students and their leader to sleep, take part in small group time, and enjoy fellowship over food. A SWAT Leader will demonstrate throughout the weekend a genuine relationship with Christ. This happens in corporate worship sessions, recreation or missions, intensive small group discussions, and in moments in which the Lord’s presence is felt.

SWAT is a ministry that we here at Johnson Ferry trust year after year to provide great leadership to our DNow weekend. Because of their recruitment and training process, I know I can trust them to send me students who love and are walking faithfully with Jesus. I think the greatest thing about SWAT is their commitment to excellence.
