Okay, so we’ve all heard this before and some (probably a lot) of us have said, “New year, new me.” Which is wonderful because as people there is always room for us to improve, but I would like to juxtapose that with how consistently good God is in every part of every year, no matter if the year itself has been good or bad.
As people we make so many resolutions, mainly fitness ones, *shout out to all the people I will see the at Ramsey the first month of the semester! *, that we slowly abandon as time progresses from January first. I, personally, am so guilty of this, but how comforting it is to recognize we serve a God who does not abandon things that are hard or require a lot work.
In James 1:17, James writes: “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.” We serve an unfathomably timeless God. Honestly, my human mind cannot wrap itself around the concept of eternity, but that is God’s dwelling place, and it is His plan to reconcile everything on Earth back to His namesake and for His glory across the span of time. In Psalm 33 we get to have a glimpse of God’s longevity. I love how in verse 3 it says “Sing to him a new song…”, but later, in verse 11, the psalmist pens: “The counsel of the Lord stands forever, the plans of his heart to all generations”. How humbling and truly amazing it is to realize no matter if the song, the people singing, the place, the time, the circumstance etc. changes, our God is constant, sovereign, and unshaken.
It is my prayer and my hope for all of us to be earnestly waiting for and listening to the plans God has set out for us this year and every year He has so graciously bestowed upon us hereafter, but also we allow our hearts to continually be changed by our gloriously unchanging God.
